Dear AACC Members & Stakeholders,
Today, our trusted partners, Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Comcast Spectacor, have announced that Levy Restaurants has been selected as the food and beverage provider for the highly-anticipated Philadelphia arena that will be shared by the 76ers and Flyers. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, Levy has a rich history of respecting local food culture and uplifting small businesses at the nearly 200 sports and entertainment venues they serve across the United States. While the new arena is not expected to break ground until 2027, and will not begin operating until 2030, the AACC is thrilled that we have additional time to ensure that our region’s Black-business community will have access to the countless opportunities that will soon be available.
In November 2024, the AACC and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment commissioned a study titled “Catalyzing Economic Equity for Black-owned Businesses at 76 Place.” In this study, we conducted stakeholder interviews, focus group discussions, and a quantitative survey to assess the readiness of more than 70 Black-owned businesses in the food service industry who expressed interest in opportunities to do business at the new arena. We also identified systemic barriers, the necessary support systems, and market opportunities for securing concessionaire, vendor, and supplier contracts. We encourage you to review the study to learn more.
As work on the arena begins, the AACC will appoint a dedicated liaison as the primary point of contact for Black-owned business vendors, suppliers, and concessionaires. This liaison will host training and capacity building sessions and coordinate regular meetings with members, stakeholders, and the community at large to share key resources and project updates.
We are thrilled that this project will soon be underway and can’t wait to share the countless opportunities that will be available. As always, we will keep you updated every step along the way.
Sincerely,
Regina A. Hairston
